Mumbai: On the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad, filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra took to his Instagram handle to share an old video from his 2006 film Rang De Basanti, in which Aamir Khan plays the revolutionary in a short sequence.

The film stars Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and British actress Alice Patton were also in lead roles.

The video shows Aamir as Azad fighting for his country and facing bullets with Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna playing in the background.

Chandrashekhar Azad was born on 23 July 1906 as Chandrashekhar Tiwari in a Brahmin family in Bhabhara village of Alirajpur princely state.

The film revolves around the story of the martyrdom of Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru in 1931.

The film broke all box office records to become the highest grossing film of 2006.

It won the National Award for Best Popular Film and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 BAFTA Awards. a R. Two tracks from Rahman’s film, Khalabali and Luka Chuppi, were considered for Academy Award nominations.
