Mumbai: National Award winning filmmaker Nishant Roy Bombarde’s latest short film Gair has been selected to premiere at the upcoming New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).
The film stars Tanmay Dhanania, a well-known name in Indian cinema, and actor Sahil Mehta, who is known for his work in Tabbar.
Nishant had earlier won the National Award for his film Daravatha. Of Garr, he said, “I’m excited to have Gaur selected to premiere at NYIFF. Incidentally, Darawatha was also officially selected for NYIFF. Daravatha, the story of a mother and son, revolved around the sexuality of a teenage boy. One can say that the hero of the film Gaar is the adult form of him and the same story has been carried forward.
The story of the film is about age-old prejudice and first love. The story revolves around two characters Pankaj and Rahul. Trouble begins in their lives when Pankaj’s caste is revealed to Rahul’s landlord family. Rahul is confused and wonders what he should do to maintain his friendship with Pankaj.
The director also added, “I wanted to bring caste and sexuality together in this film to explore and resolve the closely woven contradictions of Indian society.” There is a question in this whether sexuality has the power to break the shackles of age and rotten caste barrier?
The film is written and directed by Nishant Roy Bombarde and produced by Neeraj Churi.
The New York Indian Film Festival will take place in New York from May 7 to May 13.
