Asha Bhosle was born on 08 September 1933 in a Marathi family in ‘Sangali’ district of Maharashtra, Asha Tai’s family had a musical atmosphere from the beginning because her father’s father Master Deenanath Mangeshkar was an actor and classical musician in Marathi musical stage. . Since childhood, he had got a musical atmosphere in his house. When Asha ji was only 9 years old, then her father died. After this his family started living in Kolhapur in Pune and then again in Mumbai. Asha ji and her elder sister Swara Kokila Lata Mangeshkar took over the responsibility of their family and started singing and acting in films. Asha ji and all her sisters were taught music by their father.
Lata Mangeshkar had become quite famous at that time. He had kept his personal secretary Ganpatrao Bhosale who looked after all his work. Asha Bhosle fell in love with Ganpatrao but the family members were not ready for this marriage. Both of them ran away from home and decided to get married. At that time Asha Bhosle was 16 years old, while Ganpatrao was 31 years old. Both had married by choice but this marriage did not last long. In an interview, Asha Bhosle had told that Ganpatrao’s family did not accept her. Attempts were made to assault him. Eventually Ganpatrao threw Asha Bhosle out of the house one day. She was pregnant at that time. After being evicted from her in-laws’ house, she returned to her maternal home with her two children, Hemant and Varsha.
Fighting family struggles made a mark in the world of music
Asha Bhosle sang her first song in the year 1948 in the Sawan Aaya film Chunariya. Asha Bhosle ji’s singing career saw four films in her career as Mill Ka Patthar, Praveed Hui Naya Daud (1957), Teesri Manzil (1966), Umrao Jaan (1981). and Rangeela (1995). RD Burman and Asha Bhosle’s first meeting
RD Burman approached Asha Bhosle to sing during the film Teesri Manzil. By then, the first marriage of both Pancham da and Asha Bhosle had broken up. Pancham Da had separated from his first wife Rita Patel. He had become so upset with Rita Patel that he left the house and went to stay in the hotel. Asha Bhosle was constantly singing songs for Pancham. Hearing the songs of both, it seemed that Pancham’s music and Asha’s melodious voice were made for each other. Pancham married Asha Bhosle in the year 1980. The journey of this musical love story of Pancham and Asha could not last long and after 14 years of marriage, Pancham Da left this world at the age of 54, leaving Asha Bhosle alone.
